February 12 1978

only 6 more only 6 more
In the morning we played spaceships and I read ‘The Amazing Story of Henry Sugar And Six More’. It was very good. In one a boy vanished, in another there was a fantastic pickpocket, or ‘fingersmith’. Then we had lunch. I made my birthday invitations in the afternoon. They are girls in long dresses (decorated with doily) skating. I vacumed the living room. I watched ‘Secret Army’, ‘Hawkmoor’ and ‘All Creatures Great and Small’.

Henry Sugar, by Roald Dahl, was one of those books I read again and again through my teens – and yes, I did often read a whole book in a morning. I have fond memories of “All Creatures” but the others don’t ring a bell at all!
